Born in Ecuador and raised in Austin, CASA volunteer Paulina Artieda has always been passionate about upholding the value of diversity in her community, her career, and in her volunteer role. Most recently, Paulina has become a founding board member of The New Philanthropists, an organization focused on diversifying nonprofit boards with leaders of color.

Riley is a super smart little boy who loves school. Batman is his favorite superhero and he loves toy trains. He’s creative and enjoys drawing.
But the story of his beginning was really hard. After he was removed from his parents for drug abuse and exposure to violent behavior, he went through a lot of turmoil. Starting out in a foster home, he then moved to relatives. He finally ended up in a shelter after his relatives couldn’t handle his behavior, which came from trauma he’d experienced. Read More

On November 1, 2018, 51 children were adopted by their forever families. Every year during Adoption Day, CASA staff dress up as characters from The Wizard of Oz to help make the adoption process as magical as possible for the families involved. Having your picture on someone’s refrigerator may not seem crucial when you consider that the kids we serve are going through trauma and have a lot of needs to be met, but this concept resonated with me. It means something to have your photo up in someone’s home, especially in this day and age where we so rarely even bother to print photos when we have Instagram to share them on instead. Read More
